1947 Magnavox Georgian Restoration Completed

I have owned this set since 1977 and the only thing I did up until this restoration was replace two tubes plus the tuning eye. It sounded very good when I bought it, but after owning it 34 years, it sounded like it needed to have the caps replaced. The FM tuner wasn't working very well and it also needed to be recapped. A complete recap was done for both the FM tuner chassis and the AM/SW Receiver. All of the caps were original and leaky. I realigned the FM tuner and it's okay but can't compare with today's FM tuners. The tuner has no AFC so there is a slight amount of drift until the tuner warms up. These older tuners need an outside antenna to really work well. Currently I'm using the built in FM antenna which isn't very good. The Webster 56 changer plays 78's only. It would not reject at the end of a record. A tension spring that controls the trip mechanism had to be adjusted. The idler wheel has a slight nick in it and so it will need to be rebuilt. When I bought the set, the crystal cartridge was dead so I replaced it with an Astatic 81T which does a very good job of reproducing records.

Buying a 300 Ohm FM Antenna - Improving Your Signal With the Right FM Antenna

!±8± Buying a 300 Ohm FM Antenna - Improving Your Signal With the Right FM Antenna

If you like to listen to FM radio but your signal is weak, then you may want to consider purchasing a 300 ohm FM antenna for your home. Basically, an FM antenna is a system of conductors that is used to produce electromagnetic fields. These antennas are used to improve weak FM signal. There are many types of FM antennas in the market today and this includes omnidirectional, dipole, folded dipole and more. A 300 ohm FM antenna can be installed on a rooftop of a house or near the window of a building.

Dipole antennas

A dipole antenna can have 70 ohm of power. They are at least six feet long in length and come in flexible jackets so they are easy to install in such a way as to get the maximum reception. The dipole antenna is usually placed beside the FM radio or stereo. This type of antennas also feature knobbed ends to make installation very easy.

Folded dipole antennas

These types of antennas come with additional wires, making them an efficient 300 ohm FM antenna. This antenna is more convenient to use since they can be placed both indoors and outdoors. They also have amplifier settings that can be adjusted in order to boost or correct weak FM signals.

Omni directional antennas

As implied by the name, an omnidirectional antenna is designed to obtain signals different directions. Like the folded dipole, they also have as much as 300 ohm. This is a recommended model for homeowners living in the city or suburban areas.

High gain directional antenna

This last type of FM antenna is designed to procure a signal from FM stations located far away.

Some buying advice

If you are planning to buy any type of FM antenna, make sure that it is made from purely stainless steel. A zinc coating is also ideal because this will help the antenna avoid rusting.
